This first chronicle details the history of the world up to about 40years prior to the opening of the Dark Portal. Having collected a number of the Warcraft art books released for the game expansions, I was pleased to find that the interior art of this particular book is largely handled by a singular, excellent artist named Peter C. Lee. Instead of the vignettes or concepts, it's usually a well composed scene which he is illustrating - honestly, this is the sort of high caliber art folks who collect the Middle Earth or A Song of Ice and Fire calendars would embrace. Lovely work on his part and not something we are usually treated to seeing. @165 pages, 25 paintings, 8 maps of pre- and post-Sundering of the known world, handful of drawings, quality hardbound with no slipcover.

From the moment I received the package I knew they knocked it out of the park with this one.The book is weighty, but not overly so. The cover is thick with a very nice glossy sheen. The graphic of Medivh is a hi-res image, and I expect it to last the life of the book. Opening the book reveals the quality binding, and the care taken during the manufacturing process. Dark Horse really outdid themselves with this one.ONTO THE LORE!I am a huge Warcraft lore buff, so needless to say, I was excited to dive right into this book. I have just read the first 70 pages, and thumbed through the rest. This book covers the period of time from before the founding of Azeroth up until Medivh reaches adulthood. After having read the first few chapters, I can say the quality of writing is very good. It is written as a chronicle, (surprise, surprise) and gives a good overview of what exactly happened during the formative years of Azeroth. The illustrations are very good, and provide just the right mood to really enhance the reading experience.I won't spoil anything, but I was really surprised to see that they gave reason to the Titans and their machinations, and more importantly, what drove Sargeras to madness. The book also gives a great explanation as to exactly how each school of magic is derived, and how they interact with each other, which was a great surprise.I will update this review when I finish the book, and give my final thoughts, but at this point I can say I am beyond impressed with this first entry, and I can't wait to dive right back in. Good Job Blizzard and Dark Horse!Update:After finishing the book, I can safely say I very much enjoyed it. However, I do have some caveats.Unfortunately, I have been spoiled by the fluff books from Warhammer 40k, which I hold as the gold standard for fleshing a universe out. I can't help but to compare the two. I wish the format had been more like the Warhammer books, it would have made it more enjoyable to read, and would have added more depth to the world. It feels like the writer(s) of Chronicle were either held on a very short leash as to what kind of stories they could tell, or they didn't have the imagination to flesh out more of the world. For example, (minor spoiler) the book says that Azshara spread her dominion over most of Kalimdor, but it mostly ends there. In Warhammer fluff, it would have given dates, locations, and parties involved, followed by a detailed description of the battles that took place, and the results. It might seem like a small thing, but it's those kinds of details I wanted from a book like this.Keeping to that point, I want to add that on more than one occasion, the book glossed over new lore where it crucially should have been expounded upon, but instead favored already established lore. In my opinion, this really detracts from what I feel the book was designed to do- establish a clear picture as to what Azeroth was like prior to the invasion, where we are first exposed to the world.On occasion, I felt as though the writing fell flat, as if the writer was given a topic to write about, along with stringent rules to adhere to, and so their creativity was hindered. For example. The Troll wars were a big part of pre- Dark Portal history, but I felt as though we only got a few pages, where it should have gone on for quite some time. Again, I'm comparing it to the Warhammer fluff, but I really do wish that the writer(s) were given creative license to flesh out the battles and heroes in the way that a Warhammer book is written.I don't mean to sound so negative, but I just want this trilogy to be the new gold standard for books like this. That said, I originally rated the book 5 stars. I took one star off for my aforementioned caveats.

This book presents the history of Warcraft from mythic times right up to the opening of the first Dark Portal. The beginning is fascinating, being the creation narrative of the Warcraft universe. It was a little hard to follow for me after that, when it talks about Loken and minor Gods that are hard for me to conceptualize, but things pick right back up when you get to the trolls and the elves. This is a vitally important lore source that any serious Warcraft fan definitely should have in their collection.

Kindle version is awful. Just a bunch of papers, poorly cut and not fitting into iPad screens.I'm a huge Blizzard fan and ready to support them at all times - but this Kindle version just ruins the impression from the obviously beautiful thing.

For anyone not familiar with the whole history of Warcraft - the entire universe, including the titans, old gods, azeroth, etc., from the very beginning, and anyone interested in just how all of the various characters from the game came to be and their relationship to one another and the world, this is a great book. This starts from the beginning - gives you a sense of just how everything came to be - up to a certain point, of course. You can follow it up with volume 2, which I look forward to. I've played the game for a long time, and though sporadically these days, I've never quite understood just who all of the characters in the game are and how they fit in the greater scheme of things - this book is a great start.

While I wasn't big into the lore of the game, I had played the game since it was an MMO. Recently at work(still productive) I started watching to YouTube lore heavy videos put out by Nobbel87 and more humorous, but sometimes lore inclusive videos by Taliesin & Evitel(they are my favorite and funny as hell). They both refer to the Chronicles, so I said...what the hell, why not?These books are awesome. They add substance to the game world and really give insight into the factions. Also, the cosmology is presented in an understandable way. Finally, if you are a table top roleplayer, these books would be an excellent resource for building your own world.The pages are thick and the books are put together very well. Well worth the money and a welcome addition to any fantasy library.

I absolutely love Warcraft lore, so this is perfect for me. It starts with the creation of reality itself and spans until around the forming of Stormwind. I feel like pre-Sundering Azeroth is full of unexplained and un-tapped lore potential, so this book sort of quenches that thirst (though, Warcraft 4 being a prequel game that takes place pre-Sundering would also be good, Blizzard ;D). It also contains a fair amount of beautiful art pieces and lots of interesting maps that really puts a lot of events in perspective. All-in-all, great book for Warcraft lore junkies like myself.

Fantastic history of Monitor, the NBC weekend radio program from 1955 to 1975.It brought back many, many memories of weekend radio listening in the car, going up to the Huntington, WV, area from Cincinnati and back to visit grandparents and other relatives. Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons were when the car radio in our Mercury, Buick, or Oldsmobile wagons was tuned to WLW in Cincinnati. I remember (and this book brought back vividly!) the Monitor announcers, the theme music, commercials of longtime sponsors, the comedians, the music, and so many other memories. All these are interlaced with the wind in my face from the car window, the endlessly varied vistas of the beautiful Ohio River, warmth of a summer weekend, cornfields and tobacco fields, river shacks, towboats with large rafts of barges, N&W trains charging up and down the tracks along the river -- all now long gone.If you remember Monitor, your other associated memories may be very different from mine. However, Monitor in the background will come flooding back to you with this book, and your own happy memories with it, as you read this wonderful retrospective.

I purchased this book, first, because of my affectionate memories of NBC Monitor; second, because of its glowing reviews. The latter are not unwarranted: Hart has done his homework, as confirmed by many interviews with those who made the show happen. Hart's love for the subject glistens on every page. My dissatisfaction with the book lies in its lack of deep analysis. It is primarily a chronicle of the creation, rise, and fall of one of America's finest endeavors in broadcast journalism and entertainment. One could learn nearly as much by consulting the author's webpage on the subject--which is graced with photographs of the leading figures, none of which is reproduced in the book. Through no fault of the author, the book is suffused with elegy for a world that apparently no longer wants what Monitor uniquely provided: radio that brings us the world in its fullness with charity, wit, and intelligence. Requiescat in pace, Monitor. Your like we shall never see again.

Really enjoyed reading this and learning so much that I didn't know about Monitor. I've always been a radio fan, worked in broadcasting, and have always loved the old radio shows that I grew up listening to (and still hear, on tape and CD). But, for some strange reason I never really cared for the appearances by some of the old stars on Monitor. I think it was because I was so familiar with their original shows done, so often, before a live audience. At one time I worked for an NBC affiliate, and heard the program there or on other stations on a regular basis. But I never really gave it much thought, and certainly didn't know any of the details written in this book. If you're a radio fan, I think you'll enjoy reading it very much.

I listened to this show for hours and hours on weekends as a kid and never have gotten over it's cancellation (even the NBC Radio Network was eventually cancelled.) But Dennis has done his homework and brought it all back in the written form for us to enjoy. No illustrations in the book, but that's what the Monitor Tribute pages on the internet are for. I'm hoping enough new info will become available someday for a Volume Two.

Monitor Take 2, like the first Monitor book is a great look at a part of radio that was remarkable. It goes farther into the show and those that were a part of it. Oh that radio could be like that today. Take 2 shows behind the scenes and we can almost hear the monitor beacon in the background. I enjoyed reminiscing hearing the names and events that were a part of Monitor. It's worth reading and remembering great days of radio.

As a former freelance reporter for the NBC Monitor program I was reminded of those fun days of creating images for the mind from various locations throughout our country. What an exciting time it was and what a wonderfully fun read this book presents.

Take 2 is indeed the expanded, inside story of Monitor. I was a newscaster on Monitor during its final years, working with many of the communicators who provide their own memories of this great radio service. Dennis Hart does a marvelous job of providing word pictures of the dedicated staff behind the scenes, besides the on-air people who kept Monitor on the air for almost 20 years

There were others too, who helped Jimmy overcome the chaos of his difficult past, and they are all mentioned with great appreciation for their part in his life. But Bea is the ONE who invited Jimmy into her home for as long as HE wanted to stay. The love Bea had for Jimmy, and he for her, comes through beautifully in these pages as does the enormous gratitude Jimmy feels toward Bea for the prayers and encouragement she gave him to find a dream and chase it. That dream was music.Reading about Jimmy catching his dream of writing songs and becoming a Country Music singer/musician is entertaining and often funny as Jimmy tells stories on himself, allowing the reader to experience his endearing wit and humor. Lovely copy, using it in class.

I LOVE this book and the inspiration it has provided. I gave it as a gift after I bought it for myself.

This is a beautifully produced book, with tons of gorgeous collages. What we aren't given is any information about physical process or materials--what foundation papers? Glues? Where are the images coming from? Also, these collages are so slick, I could swear they were digital, although the authors' descriptions of their workshops make it sound as though all collages are created on the spot and then critiqued by the group. Most of the text is psychologically-based, in an art therapy environment. I don't know about the therapy but those collages look pretty darn professional to me. I usually like books of this nature to at least offer one chapter, or page even, of basic instruction in the techniques and materials they're using.

This book is about people who expressed their lives, emotion, feelings, experiences in collage art work on a regular basis at a studio in California. It contains individual stories about the creation of a collage by each person and how their inner life became reflected in the work they did each week at the studio. I loved the stories and thoughts about each person's process and progress. How interesting that someone put all this into a lovely book to share with us. This was the first book I read when I started to work on collage. It took the fear out of starting and inspired me to just have fun and see what happens.

This is an inspiring book. It's about community. Made me want to move to Sonoma and join the group. Well written, well constructed book. One talented writer. I liked the art, too. I did a nice collage myself. Hope to do more, especially with my own photos and Photoshop.

I own many art books, but Living Into Art is the one that has had the most significant impact on my personal art journey. It has inspired me in ways that no other book has. I have read it several times and will continue to read and reread it. I wish I lived near Sonoma in order to be part of the collage studio experience that Lindsay has so eloquently elucidated. The power of the women's experiences in that art community is so tangible when you read each chapter. This is the book that I most recommend to my artist friends.

I gave this book to someone what makes all sorts of collages, especially the personal ones. I recommend it, because my friend likes it very much.

Living Into Art: Journeys Through CollageThis is a beautiful book. Each chapter features a different artist' experience in collaging at a center in Sonoma. They mention their own experience and how working with collage and dialoging has effected their artwork and lives. The images are reproduced exquisitely. I am fortunate to live in the same state as the center and this book has motivated me to take a drive up the coast and attend one of their classes. When visiting the art centers website [...] I found that they also offer collage community meetings. This book clearly reflects a labor of love for the authors.

plenty of very nicely done photo's. If the author did a second edition, I would like to see a chapter on the engine as it is the heart of these bikes. Some pix's of the different engine/transmissions in various states of disassembly. When I was a younger, these were the Rolls-Royces of "mini-bikes" and it great to see them as originals in full color.

This e-book was useful while studying for my CCNP Security, specifically exam 300-208. I used this book in conjunction with rack rentals & video courses, and Cisco documentation. While you can’t go wrong with Cisco documentation, this book comes with configuration walkthroughs with diagrams/screenshots. If you’re fortunate enough to be using some of the technology covered (ISE especially assuming you have licenses for features like Profiling & Posturing), you can follow along. The book in my opinion is also a nice reference to have, especially since it covers a lot of information about Cisco ISE (Identity Services Engine). With that being said for those not aware (I wasn’t), this book is almost word-for-word with the Official Cert Guide CCNP Security SISAS 300-208; even the diagrams/screenshots.So I wasted some money in the end. Co-writer Aaron T. Woland helped create both books.3 Stars only because of what I mentioned about the Cert Guide. Perhaps this was mentioned in a previous review and I missed it.

My comment is regarding printed edition. Many images are of bad quality, sometimes unreadable. Maybe electronic version is better.There are cheaper books with lot of high quality color photo images.Content seems to be OK.

Very detailed and well thought out book. Super useful as ISE can be pretty complex.
