This is a classic book by the excellent author John Stott. It is a great book for a newer believer or for someone advancing in their faith. It is very well written about the most important topics in Basics of Christian faith. I enjoy reading John Stott because it isn't just a writing "about Christianity" in a theological or intellectual way but written by a person with a vibrant real faith. I bought it because I wanted to keep a copy to refer to.The book was well packaged and came in the stated time period. The condition was exactly as stated.

Although this book is pretty short (only 179 pages), it is packed full of great stuff.There is some basic apologetics, but there is much more as well. It contains a lot of basic Christian doctrines and some great insights. The author shows that it matters what one thinks about spiritual issues as well as why it matters. He teaches a lot about the character and nature of God.Some of the topics that he addresses are that people do not seek God without God seeking them first, that the primary purpose of the Gospel is not an invitation to man, but rather a statement about what God has done for us through Christ, that God will only be found by those who really seek Him, the importance of humility in the spiritual quest, that many who belong to the 'visible Church', are not necessarily members of the real church, and much more.This is really a powerhouse that should be read by spiritual seekers, those who are already Christians, and pretty much everyone else. At the very least, from an educational standpoint, any reader can learn "why 2.3 billion people call themselves 'Christians'" as Rick Warren states in the foreward.

I have read this book several times and I get a blessing from it each time I open its pages. It reminds me of how I came to Christ as my Lord and Savior. It teaches that God is holy, just, forgiving, trustworthy, and sistaining.I recommend this book to non-believers who are searching for life's true meaning, believers who want to know exactly what we as Christians believe about our Father and His Son, and all mature believers who need a refresher in the fundamentals of the faith.

Well written in a purposeful and clear style.I have no quips with the content nor extent of this book. Those essential elements and doctrines of Christianity are well spelled out and those wishing yet more clarification or depth can use this book as their important initial step to knowledge.A great book to offer a young believer or to strengthen the nomimal.The Trinity while not deliberately outlined, is evident to anyone who has some background in rationality - if all three persons of the Trinity are equal in all respects and all God, then this Doctrine is well represented with many direct quotes from Scripture.I particularly like that Stott reveals those necessary duties of Christians (not for salvation but part of justification). Too often the Christian is informed that naught but his mental assent is needed. Here Stott delineates those crucial outward elements incumbent upon those that claim a true fellowship with Christ!

This is on my "Read Often" list. Enlightening, beautifully written.

One of the lessons of this well written book is that there is no such thing as "I have already heard that before". The author systematically takes the reader through the basics of Christianity, helping us understand who Jesus is, and why His atonement was essential for our salvation.As a Bible teacher for many years, I find that re visiting this book and thinking about the basics over and over again, helps me consider the depth of Jesus sacrifice and how important it is to clearly communicate these truths to others.This book is not only for those who know very little about Christianity, it is for the mature believer who is seeking a deeper and more intimate relationship with Jesus.Doulos

It really affirms what you believe and confirms. I am leading a study in church and this is the study. I do feel the author could have used more down to earth language so a group could understand and not need a dictionary by their side. But I really liked it and it gave me assurance in my own heart about why I am a Christian and how to live according to scripture. One thing I have to say he explains: sin and without excuse. Humanity does not like to hear this at all but he puts it in a way that makes it clear, we cannot wear the name Christian without a surrendering of all of who we think we are...I will reread and share it.

Stott has a challenge to the reader, he means this book to be for seekers after truth. Fine classic book presenting Christianity.

Always bought my wife an Audubon Page-a-Day Calendar for Christmas but they changed the format last year (thinner stock & a downgraded holder among other things). Also wished it had a brief description of bird - habitat, size, number of eggs or such. So imagine my pleasure when I saw this! Gave it to my wife on unpacking the Amazon box this year & she was delighted. Great pictures of birds from our side of the country with some information on each & an interactive component. What is not to like? May buy a second for my sister in England who likes birds & will be interested in seeing ones not from the UK. Recommended.Update: Seeing the negative reviews of the new Audubon Page-a-Day Calendar (much the same as the many negative reviews for last year's calendar) even more happy with this ideal replacement. Did buy a second copy to send to my sister overseas. Expect she'll love it as much as my wife likes hers.

I got this one because it has more info about the birds and has a companion app that allows you to listen to the bird songs and calls. And the cards turned out to be very high quality too.

It is not 2019 yet but I do like the 2018 calendar a lot (which is why I ordered the one for next year)

I could not be happier with this calendar! I was thrilled to find out it has barcodes that pair with a free app to allow me to hear the birds' songs! I peeked at the first week and the photos are vibrant like other reviewers said. The back of the page has some basic information about the bird including a shaded map of their habitat.

Our bird watching grandson loved it, especially the little "barcode" that enables him to hear what all 365 birds sound like! His parents especially liked that part :-)

Mostly good pictures, maybe once a week there was an ugly picture or one with a bird eating a live fish etc. Others are cute!

A bird a day, keeps the doctor away

I had been getting the Audubon birds page-a-day for many years, but last year, they shrunk it, printed it on crummy paper and even the quality of the photography went downhill. After reading reviews on Amazon saying that Audubon 2019 was the same as 2018, we bought this Cornell Western page-a-day instead. After a quick leaf through, I am *very* happy to see that that paper it's printed on is glossy and of decent substance and the photos are absolutely superlative - well shot and the good printing makes the colors and patterns absolutely pop! Having a new bird every morning to look at is one of life's finest little pleasures for me (I actually start by trying to ID the bird before I turn the lights on ), and I thought this was gone forever with Audubon's total loss of quality, so was *very* happy to find this calendar! Old bird watchers like me probably won't find much new in the info on the back, but I think it's great for folks just starting out - altogether a well thought-out and executed publication.

Had to give this book at least 1 start to review it but I would not recommend it unless you like reading People Magazine type biographies, complete with "boxed highlights" in it. All were short, most were contemporary figures and you would get more by reading the gossip mags at the supermarkets (same type of facts and rumors). Of the old Hollywood stars, there were a lot of inconsistencies, half-truths and questionable facts. I have read over 80 full length and extensive bios of old Hollywood stars (pre-1960) by different authors, sometimes several on the same star. In most every one of these articles - I call them articles because they certainly aren't biographies - Mr. Parrish claims that the men were "rumored to be homosexual or bisexual" and the women all had female lovers, as if it were a stated fact and something he could prove beyond the shadow of a doubt. Innuendos and speculations are not part of a good biography. But then dead stars cannot sue for slander or defamation of character. Don't waste your time or money by paying for this book.

In my opinion, too much of the book was devoted to stars of silent films and very early talkies. They held no interest for me.

I was disappointed that there were no pictures to go with the stories. The stories were too brief and I wasn't interested in reading about spoiled singers I wanted to read about classic Hollywood starlets .

I have read many books that direct one toward a very specific methodology that work well enough when you're developing a voice to precisely match a karaoke box or sing well to your car stereo, or even offer enough to let you emulate the original vocalist on stage. Never before has any book helped me understand the science of singing in such a way as to accentuate *my* own vocal character. When I sing now, it's me, not me struggling to pretend I'm someone else. It's amazing what a little confidence can do, but until I began to recognize the hidden qualities my voice already contained, and to develop and use them per the advice given in this book, I had no idea just how capable I was. I don't like to change originals, but now rather than trying to follow someone else's emotional inflections when doing so may cause my voice to break or other problems,I can use my own vocal character to convey the same emotion without sabotaging my own performance.Examples, exercises, comparison information that expands the reader's understanding greatly, and all written from a perspective where there is no good or bad, per se, only recommendations and examples based on science and experience that demonstrate the effects of various things on your vocal characteristics and qualities. While it's great to read a massive tome on a subject that truly carries your interest, it's even more amazing to read a few paragraphs and then see, hear and experience what you've just read about, personally. As I said in the heading, this book in just a couple days has proven itself life-altering.

I thought the book would be more helpful without a instructor

Nancy Bos has written a fine little book for people who want help with their singing. Singing 101 covers all the basics in an easy-to-understand format. Her approach is positive and enthusiastic, and her information is spot on and scientifically verifiable. If nothing else, Nancy's book and exercises will help put to rest those "oh so wrong" directions that almost all singers have heard; directions such as "don't sing from your throat, sing from your diaphragm," and, "fill up your stomach with air," which are simply not accurate and undoable to boot!

New in the Little People, Big Dreams series, discover the incredible life and work of Jane Goodall. The text and illustrations show Jane as a child playing with her favourite toy, a stuffed monkey. She dreamed of living in the jungle with the chimpanzee. She did not go to college or university, but saved every penny to go to Kenya. Once there she got a job observing chimpanzees in the wild and when being still, they accepted her into their family. She was able to see how much they are like humans. She wrote articles and eventually became well known for her work. She is now an advocate for saving the habitat of the primates as well as conservation and education. This is a child friendly biography with delightful illustrations. It is a story that shows a young woman striving to achieve her dream. This book could be used to teach young children how to write a biography, show that it is important to have a dream and strive to achieve it as well as to introduce them to this well known primatologist. A good book for a school library. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book to read via netgalley. The rating, opinions and ideas stated are my own.

This book gave a short description of the life of Jane Goodall, and her route into the studies of chimpanzees in Africa, her life's work. I believe that this book in particular would be useful with younger elementary children, in the first through third grades. It's language is easily accessible and the pictures correspond with the simple story. Those illustrations are lively with an element of whimsy.
