While we didn’t know what to expect, this story captivated both our 5th grade son and our 8th grade daughter. It resonated with both of them because they know Nike well and the author tells the Nike story in a way that really connects with kids. Our 5th grader zeroed in on some of the anecdotes, which seem real and well-researched. A few are obscure and very cool. He actually understood the real-world business concepts, which the author goes out of her way to make real and accessible. I think he felt like he was reading and fully understand a real business story, which he was. Our 8th grader totally connected with the entire story, including the real life ups and downs of the entrepreneurial adventure. It’s well told. They both had lots of questions about other things that we see everyday, and they’ve wondered aloud about who may have had the “idea†and how it came to be — which is exactly what we hoped for when we bought this book. We’ll be ordering the rest in the series after we finish writing this review. By the way, the illustrations, the “fun facts†and other techniques included here make it all super accessible and really entertaining. We read along for most of it just because it was so fun. You and your kids will love this!
My son blew through the "Who Was" books. I was looking for another series for him along those lines. I bought "From An Idea To Nike" and "From An Idea To Disney". They're fantastic! He's now asking questions about the stock market and wants to invest his birthday money. Great job, author!
I am in 4th grade and I loved this book. It was cool to learn about a real company.
Love what this book has to offer. It gets kids interested with sports and teaches them business along the way. What a great concept! I love this book.

My grandsons are big Nike fans. They love the Nike logo active wear and so I thought they might be interested in how Nike became a success. The book is aimed at ten to twelve year old readers but I read it before giving it to the boys who are eleven and thirteen. I learned a few things and I thought the illustrations added to the easy read. Both boys read the book and said it was interesting. They talked about how they might have a business someday. It’s not up there with Harry Potter and I’m not sure they’ll give it a second read, but maybe it inspired them a bit.
Fantastic read for kids (and even adults)! This is the perfect book to inspire entrepreneurship, to learn basic aspects of what it takes to run a business, and to understand the power of marketing. The story is very engaging and easy to follow. “From an Idea to Nike†is split into 13 short chapters interspersed with fun facts, keyword definitions, and caricature-like illustrations (all in black and white). This is a basic paperback with no fancy paper, printing or frills, which I consider perfect … there’s no need for high production since the writing does all the work, sucking you in and making you want to know more.It’s 5.25 x 7.625†and 128 pages. The last pages of the book include a timeline and other notes. I’m planning to check out more books in this series since this one really nailed it for me.
This book is full of good information that is easy to read and engaging to kids who pick it up. There are black and white illustrations throughout, and a timeline and bibliography at the end for anyone wanting to do further research. This is the perfect book for anyone third grade and higher that enjoy reading non-fiction.
