This is another great book by Carolyn Brown. I loved this story of a divorced woman with seven daughters returning to her hometown. They don't just acquire any house, but an old brothel and begin the large task of remodeling and updating it. The handyman that is hired has always been in love with the mother and because of that takes the job. There is so much humor with twists and turns in the story. It is very entertaining. The little girls are plotting and scheming continually throughout the story trying to get the two together. As always with Carolyn Browns books it is clean and has some good lessons in it. Enjoy!

Every single time I read a Carolyn Brown book I don't think it can get any better, but she proves me wrong time and time again. This book just warmed my heart from the first page on...Mary Jane Marsh Simmons is a divorce woman with seven beautiful little girls she's been raising on her own, since her ex-husband walked out on them on Thanksgiving four years ago. She decided to move them all back to her small hometown of Nacona, Texas, to raise the girls without the fears of drugs and crime that was all around in a big city like Dallas. The only place she could find that would suit their needs, was a place that had once been a brothel. Miz Raven was the last remaining relative to own the place and when she died the house went up for sale and Mary Jane immediately bought the place. It was going to need a lot of work though. The plumbing, electrical, heating needed to be updated first before anything else, but there was a whole lot more that had to be done to make it fit for eight females to live in.Joe Clay Carter had just retired from twenty years in the Marines, Special Forces. He'd lived through wars and rumors of wars and decided to go home to Nacona to do nothing but play poker, draw his retirement check and enjoy life. Two weeks later he was bored stiff, his motel room closing in on him, and he was seriously thinking of reenlisting until high old high school crush, Mary Jane, came to his door asking him to remodel her new house.Joe Clay had been so in love with Mary Jane since way back in high school, and he was still in love with her. That's the real reason he never married. No woman had ever been able to hold a candle next to his sweet Mary Jane. Not one. So when she came knocking on his motel room door, he took the job. Not that he needed one, because he was pretty well off money wise himself. No he took the job just to be close to her, and hopefully he could worm his way into her heart. For four months he worked his butt off getting things back into working order around that big old mansion. He didn't mind it a bit though, because not only did he fall deeper in love with her, but he fell madly in love with those little girls, too. Before long...those girls had him completely wrapped around their little fingers, and they fell in love with him just as much as he was with them. All he had to do now, was to get their mother to feel the same way. This book will make you laugh out loud, some times it'll make you cry,but most of all it will warm your heart and make you feel all warm and cozy inside. The little girls are all very different, but each one is very special and unique in their own way. There's not one of them that wants Joe Clay to leave, so they are always scheming and plotting to find different ways to get their mother and Joe Clay together. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it back fires. The only thing I would have liked to see, was the reaction the girls had when their father brought them back home. And a short epilogue at the end would have been nice, too. Although it was very good just the way it was...I'm just greedy that way. I really just didn't want to see it end, if I'm being truthful. lol!Would I recommend this book? Yes, in fact go get it now. I promise you...you'll be so glad you did.

I wasn't sure if I would like this book - I didn't. I loved it!What a great and authentic story about the struggles, victories and love of the mother of seven young girls. Divorced and carrying the burden of guiding her daughters through life without the support of a husband, Mary Jane is a good role model for her girls. Then add in the hot and kind handyman that has been in love with her since fifth grade and you have the makings of a really good story. Mary Jane has to learn to forgive and forget the past so she can move forward and love again. It is quite a battle for her but she is a strong woman and understands her own failures and works to conquer her fears. Her success is sweet and her reward is great!

I love Carolyn Brown's books and this one was not one of her best but it was good. I do recommend Trouble in Paradise if you like Carolyn Brown. The story is about 183 pages long and the story line developed quickly and not drawn out which was good. It just seemed that the story ended too soon. I wanted to read more to see if Joe Clay went away after Christmas on his military assignment or stayed home to be with M.J. and the girls.

We all fantasize about the perfect family and how we would handle challenges better than maybe we knew how in real life. When I realize how lucky I was, it makes me a bit ashamed that I didn't recognize it sooner. At least I reached out to those who were difficult to reach, and I'm glad to say my relationships with my children and their families are healthy and happy. That's what this story shared with me, having the courage to make love the focus for all.I loved this story, especially the open hearted children who made it come alive.

This was wonderful from beginning to end, although I didn't want it to end. It truly flowed and all the characters were well placed. There was true grit in each of the major players. Divorce is hard on everyone but especially when you're the innocent party left with 7 children to raise alone. The fight to stay positive and make the best of us is what Mary Jane did. Joe Clay had a fight of own as well. I would have extended the ending to include the children though. But all in all, I loved it! The ups, downs and especially the humor. I recommend this as a nice book to be read completely through where you won't be interrupted. I will read it again in just such a setting...

This was a tremendous book. No cursing or fwords or erotic sex. A beautiful story and I had laughs and such an lovely comfort in reading. Thanks I did not know good reading was still in vogue...Thank God for some people that still can write with humor and excitement also.

When Mary Jane buys the old run down bordello to refurbish as a home to her and her seven daughters, she sees the potential of the space, but isn't quite ready to make it a home a family home. To become a home she'd have to release her ex and reopen her closed heart to love Joe Carter. Her stubbornness almost costs her everything, but her children get her ready to enjoy life, in paradise. Another great read by Carolyn Brown!
