I read just about everything on ballet there is. This was terrific and gave me an entirely different perspective on GB than I'd previously had. What a person!

a great follow up book to Balanchine and the Lost Muse. It picks up almost precisely where the other book ends, just as Balanchine is getting ready to launch his fabulous career.

I love this book. Not only does it illustrate the concepts well, but it's well-written (funny even) and very concise and informative. I bought it to review stats concepts and see the python programming examples, but I think it could serve as a first/ introduction to stats book as well. The author has a wonderful ability to really distill information and teach via examples. This book served me well and I still use it as a reference all the time.

I really liked this book. The author did a really good job. It's a mixture of Python and statistics so some previous background in both will allowing you to benefit entirely from reading this book. Especially prior experience with Python will help you understand the code used by the author, as it is not a simple one. He often uses wrapper functions and class inheritance, so if this doesn't ring a bell, I suggest learning a bit of Python first. Otherwise you can skip the programming parts, but I think you will lose a large part of the book's value.Statistics here is more basic than Python code, for sure. But it does serve well as a introduction to statistical analysis. A software developer wanting to start learning statistics is probably a good candidate for this book. But not the other way around. After reading it I think I still prefer to use R to generate probability density plot, than Python.Anyway, it is almost a must read for anyone on their patch to data scientist career. It not long or super expensive, so if you are interested in stats and Python, just read it.

This book is a great introduction to statistics for any person with basic programming skills. The main issue, when you tackle any math-heavy stuff - is that you are bombarded with a huge amount of formulas, but can't "feel" the practical side of the subject.In this book, you have a simple way to practically and swiftly try each new concept through Jupyter Notebook interactive examples. Transform the data, draw a chart - observe results. The fastest feedback loop you can get learning any math stuff.If you want to get the best results from the book, spend some time and setup Jupyter Notebook, or just run them directly in Google Collab service. Just reading the book without practically running all the examples just a waste of time.

I didn't read the description carefully and didn't realize this was geared for Python programmers, which I'm not. While it seems to have a good discussion of statistical comments, the fact that all examples are in Python limits its usefulness to those not familiar with the language.

What I like about Think Stats is that it is direct and to the point. It includes a case study that runs through the book and works on data available online. It provides a great starting point for exploring once you see how the given examples work. Each chapter has a handful of exercises that can get you started if you aren't sure what to do next. Downey has an easy style of writing and finds the fine line between enough information and too many details. That said, this book might be a bit thin if you don't have any experience with statistics or have access to a mentor.Keeping in mind the that the book is a focused overview, it certainly supports the programmer who is looking for hands-on examples but I believe it also is useful for the non-programmer that needs a quick understanding of the core concepts. They may not be able to do the calculations but they will be able to participate in a conversation.As it's concise and has active examples, the book would be a great supporting text for a course that requires assumes some statistics experience but doesn't need the overhead of a full-blown stats book. As I have mentioned in other reviews, this book is a good addition to the O'Reilly collection of books on data mining - Segaran's Programming Collective Intelligence: Building Smart Web 2.0 Applications, Russell's Mining the Social Web: Analyzing Data from Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Other Social Media Sites, and Janert's Data Analysis with Open Source Tools.

I was disappointed by this book. It purports to present stats in the Python environment, as a starter for people who are light in stats and heavy in Python. It's a thin book, but that would be fine if it delivered on its premise. The data he uses is not obtainable by a quoted link and the code in the book amounts, over many pages, to under 100 lines of Python. The statistics are bare-bones definitions that are quite well covered, better covered, in other books.I was especially interested in the book because he promised to make some of the arduous formulae more understandable in the prospect of code. No code for those parts though.

This is such an awesome book. The code Downey includes with the book is worth the price of the book.

Very accessible presentation of stats fundamentals and how to apply them. The accompanying thinkstats2 and thinkplot libraries are a common go-to tool for my work.

Throw in all the drama, intrigue, uncertainty, fear, danger and suspense and you have one intense, page turning bombshell that grabs your attention and holds it from start to finish. The characters are complex, believable and realistic with such depth it demands respect. The scenes are so graphically detailed and descriptive it's easy to picture each scenario as they play off one another perfectly. Thorn did a remarkable job bringing this read to life brilliantly. Not my cup of tea and dnf, made it half way before throwing in the towel. This read is hard to follow without understanding what exactly is going on. I was baffled constantly, and found myself aggravated to even want to follow when we are going back and forth between characters. I finally decided to just give this one a rest, if I wasn't into it by now, I wasn't going to be.

Such a great series!Snowed in for the weekend? Or in my case a week with the kiddos not in school. This was the perfect way to ignore all the fighting and whining. Yes. I was totally that "No F's Given" parent this last week.You'll get sucked into the worldbuilding. Sonya's snarky remarks and attitude will keep you entertained and intrigued the rest of the time. Plus...there are some great guys as well. Seriously I couldn't put it down even if I wanted too. Which I didn't.

A great series. Sonya finds her 4th but she needs to get them all together. Do you love Vampires and the Supernatural. Then you will love this series. There is Magic and Fantasy. And twists and turns. But will Sonya be able to complete the mission. This is an absolute must read. The Author has done a fantastic job with the characters. Who doesn't love John Wooden? I bought this book for my step sister as she began coaching high school girls basketball. I figured that she could use a few of the quotes in her team meetings. She said that she loved the book and has used it often.

This is the book of quotes.....motivational and in its entirety, a snapshot of what an incredible character Coach Wooden was. He was one of those people we all should be able to meet, but you will realize after this book, there was only one Coach Wooden.

John Wooden is one of my 'favorite' coaches. He had many great quotes, and this book covers most of them...'really' like it!

I have now increased my library with the number of John Wooden books that I have.

I bought this as a gift to my boss- he loves inspiring quotes. It's a great size for a desk as well. Can't go wrong with Coach Wooden!

I happened to see the authors Joseph & Michelle Assad on a TV show and thought she sounded like her book would be interesting and it was! She does focus a lot on the power of prayer and in an era where one’s faithfulness sometimes causes ridicule, I did like that she was proud to share her journey of faith. One thing I would like to point out is that it isn’t only Christians who have been persecuted in Muslim countries. Iraq, Iran, Egypt, all had huge, hundred’s of years old thriving Jewish communities in which it’s Jewish citizens have been murdered, persecuted, expelled and decimated by Islam’s “religion of peace”. It seems like it’s difficult to live alongside Muslim extremism no matter what other faith you have.

This was a page turner from the start. A lady from church posted about this book (she went to college with the author) and I decided to sample the book...one chapter in and I hit BUY! And I do not regret it. Michelle and Josephs story is one of faith, courage, tenacity and a host of other amazing qualities that truly forms an incredible story. Thank you Michelle for having the courage to tell your story, the faith that passes all understanding and sharing that with the world!

Incredibly refreshing and inspiring book. It honors those who serve a noble cause, and acknowledges human frailty and inspire courage to stand up and do things you thought were impossible. As someone who served in the government, I think this book will also shed light on the unsung heroes that continue to serve and provide security for the homeland and elsewhere around the world. Even if you're not an avid reader, you will have a hard time putting this book down as it is riveting and tells true stories that will make you want to "get off the X" and do more using the natural gifts we are all born with.

Breaking Cover is in a word fantastic. But one word won’t cut it for the amazing story this book tells. As a man in a male dominated profession I’ve seen women who work really hard to fit in or stand out. A definite balancing act that I imagine can be daunting. However, what I can’t imagine is how a small town girl must feel diving head first into the most secretive world of the CIA’s boys club and making not only a name for herself but breaking down barriers in place from its inception.No spoiler here. Just my opinion saying Breaking Cover is an honest look at a woman’s struggle and fight to success. The book is very well written and easily read. Sometimes I felt I wanted way more detail only to realize that much of the detail I’m used to seeing in novels most assuredly can’t be described in this memoir. This isn’t fiction with flowering romance and Bond type cliche. This is real and refreshing to have a glance behind the curtain to see the efforts and orchestrations required to make this freedom we hold so dear a reality.The book also dramatically illustrates how faith in God and leaping to the rescue of others suffering can bring more fulfillment than most of us can understand. I was moved by such efforts of this person to share a story of heroic love and dedicated skills for the sake of others.I highly recommend Breaking Cover. Take a moment to sneak a peak into the true world of spy games from a woman who thought this could never be where she would be. A woman who not only did it but allowed her faith to guide her along the way.

This book is just amazing, it is fun, it is very interesting. I loved reading about the CIA and how she applied and work there, the missions etc. Then the final mission to rescue persecuted Christians is just unbelievable. She talks about God trough the entire book in a real, personal, practical way. Amazing people and an amazing book.

To make this a more enjoyable read, you should know it is not a super-spy novel, but more of an autobiographical journey, starting from entering the CIA, and how her job and her Christian faith shaped and affected her life after that. Although she is prevented from filling in some details, the events described in the book were very interesting. I also found it inspiring to read about her struggles and failures, and how her faith and perseverance helped her through those difficult times. It is not a very long book, and I highly recommend it!

I have known Michele and Joseph many years - LOVE them. When the book arrived, my 84 year old dad absconded with the book, finally returned it 5-6 days later to tell me he could NOT put it down. “A page-turner” - a “Must-Read!”

You had me on page ONE! Couldn't put this book down. Michele is a clear and concise writer and the information was spellbinding. I feel as though I was right there with her and Joseph. Bravo! SOMEONE has to do a movie...
